Baby Boom Building
August 12, 2017
Spending on home improvement touched a fresh record last year and will continue to increase over the coming decade as America ages, according to a report out Tuesday.
The baby boomers are one of the most significant drivers of that spending, according to a report from the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University. Analysts there forecast that homeowners 65 and older will account for one-third of all improvement expenditures by 2025, more than double their share from 1995-2005.
Owner improvements by all age groups are forecast to increase about 2% every year through 2025, rising to $269 billion from $221 billion in 2015, but the baby boom generation’s preference for aging in their own homes may have one of the biggest impacts on that spending
