Moss on roofs- something we see often here in the Wood Village/Portland area can grow to the point where it's forcing shingles apart. This can lead to leaks. There's a few options for dealing with moss, but it's a good idea to get the roof inspected to ensure no larger problems have been caused. 

Whatever the issue, dealing with moisture quickly is key. If left, mold can flourish. Mold can cause all sorts of problems, from aggravating asthma to leaving unsightly stains on painted surfaces and making wood more vulnerable to rot.
